I am so delighted to share with you the first issue of Yarrow Magazine. Our mandate is to publish the best new writing from emerging and established Indigenous authors, to create a space for dialogue about Indigenous literary practices, and to respond in meaningful ways to the Indigenous publications that catch our attention. As such, our inaugural issue contains new creative writing by Marilyn Dumont, Kaitlyn Purcell , Molly Cross-Blanchard, Billy-Ray Belcourt and Chelsea Vowel, reviews of Waubeshig Rice’s Moon of the Turning Leaves and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson’s Noopiming, and an interview with Tenille Campbell on Indigenous joy. I personally think this is a fantastic first issue, and I would like to thank all the writers for trusting us with their work. I also hope that Yarrow can be a welcoming space for emerging Indigenous editors across Canada to find a foothold in the world of editing and publishing; and, likewise, I would like to invite the non-Indigenous students from the University of Alberta who are interested to take part in the same process of learning.
